The Latest Notes
A couple of thoughts as we head into Easter. Hopefully you all have some amazing family time planned to enjoy each other, to just take a few moments to sit, chat, and hang out. Relish these times with your parents, kids, families and community! Get out into your community and be with them. Do amazing things for those around you, even if you do not know them! Share your families musical talents with others!
First and foremost: We need to get ALL parents with students in 8th-12th grade bands to get signed up for the Band App! This is our preferred method of sending out information to all families in a timely manner. It also allows us flexibility to do polls, signup lists and other nifty features! See below for info on signing up. THEN TURN THE NOTIFICATIONS ON! Being connected does NOT help if you hide the info! Secondly: Band Camp dates need to be changed to August 8th-12th in order to help everything run as smoothly as possible. We do realize there are several people who have contacted Mr. Shimmons already about having setup up family trips while keeping mind the original band camp dates. We do not expect you to change those family plans and are sorry for this confusion caused by circumstances out of our control. We will make sure your child gets caught up to speed once you get back from your family event. Third: The Band is always in need of adults who are willing to put in a little bit of time each month to help organize and run band events. Things like Band Camp, Cabin Fever Variety Show, making sure uniforms are sized and passed out, getting snacks and water are arranged for the students, and many other activities that help support our students. Band Boosters meets once a month (the first Tuesday usually of the month) form 6:30-7:30 in order to make those plans/activities. Band Boosters currently is in dire need of a person with accounting skills who can take over the Band Booster Treasurer position. If you like crunching numbers and keeping track of financial records and would be willing to volunteer then get ahold of Mr. Shimmons. Better yet come to our Booster meeting! Who is Drum Major? What is our Show?Upon telling a senior recently what our upcoming show would be this year they were a bit upset.... upset that THEY couldn't have done this theme! Well, everything has aligned for this year for this show. It is time... and now ladies and gentlemen..... I give you the answers you have all been waiting for... (unless you are Color Guard - then you have already had insiders information!) As we wrap up one year of learning and go into summer I leave you with this thought....
Seth Godin writes a tremendous blog post and ends it with this.... "That’s how we learn most of the foundational things that we know, remember and care about–not through exposure, but through effort and failure. That’s why tests aren’t nearly as useful as projects. Just about anything worth learning is worth learning the hard way." Here's the full post - it's super short! https://seths.blog/2021/06/lessons-learned/ June 6th, 2021 at 1:00 is Graduation Day at Farwell High School
As you well know the 8th-12th Grade Band Students will be performing at this event. Percussion students need to report to the field no later than Noon - This will give you time to set up and move percussion equipment. It's going to be a sunny day! Sweet deal (Literally!) The Popcorn arrived! Of course they showed up RIGHT after school!
