The Latest Notes
Here is the letter with information about the Beal City Marching Band Invitational that EVERYONE is going on.... Several new things in this letter compared to previous years! One item is that all students need to bring in $2 so we can get going on our Notation assignments. They should also bring in $10 if they want Band Boosters to feed them a piece of Pizza, Cookie and Drink for the three evening performances that we will be attending. ![]()

9th-12th Graders are of course Marching in the Labor Day Parade this Monday. They need to be at the school at 9am and the parade will start at 10am. Since we will be in the beginning of the parade make sure you let the students know where to meet you at.
The Parade theme is red white and blue so we are simply going to wear our show shirts with khaki/blue jean shorts. If you are one of the four that did not attend Band Camp you still owe $45 to cover the cost of your show shirt, gloves, dry cleaning of uniforms through the year and other marching band expenses. Please pay on Monday so we can give you your show shirt! IF you were not at our spring meeting and you have a student in the 5th grade beginning band then you need to be at our Parent Night on August 30th. We will start right at 6 and will answer all those questions rolling around in your heads about band! We will also have Herter Music there to answer assist you in getting an instrument for your child to play!
Concessions is one of the ways Band Boosters raises money to pay for things like the band camp staff, new uniforms, new instruments and to have money to help send kids to events like Brass Band of Battle Creek.
We need adults who are willing and able to help us run our volleyball concessions for just one evening. We would like to have two adults at every volleyball concessions along with a couple of students. Right now we only only have two adults on the Sept 11 game. We have no adults for Sept 16 or 20. On the saturday events it is so much nicer if we can have two shifts - an AM and an afternoon group. Those two Saturdays are Sept 16 and Oct 21. Leave a comment below, Email me, text me, or send a message through Remind if you are willing to work any of these days Since there are no lines on the real football field Band Rehearsal for August 22, 2017 will be at the High School tonight on our daily practice field (Parking lot)
6:30 Be here. 6:35 be in basics in the parking lot! I will dismiss promptly at 9PM so please make sure you have a ride arranged for that time. I am so stoked for Fridays performance at Band Camp! It's been such a pleasure and honor to work with this group of students this year! This group of students have once again risen to my driving and ambition of learning four in four! The ENTIRE show is roughed in and learned! This makes me happy, happy, happy! They are looking at me as I ask them to do things and simply responding with a "Sure, Mr. Shimmons - we will do that!" The Seniors have risen to the challenge of being new leaders, taking over from last years seniors. The Seniors and Juniors have set a great example for what they would like the band to sound and look like for this marching season - It is so much fun to work with students that respond and learn and have a blast doing it! The Sophomores have improved so much since last year and the Freshmen have fallen right into step behind them! These new students are an outstanding addition to our Marching Band! I look out into the band and love seeing their eagerness to emulate the upper classmen! All these students have simply been a blast to have at camp for an entire week! You parents are so incredibly lucky to have such outstanding kids! When you watch this performance Friday afternoon you will see that enthusiasm! The staff for this years camp has been a wonderful group of adults that really love and care for our kids! Lisa Gross is never going to be allowed to "graduate"! Her ability to nurse our marchers and musicians and to train them about how to take care of themselves is invaluable! Dakota Weldon is so much fun and so helpful with mentoring the students as well as taking care of our equipment! The woodwinds were begging me to have Trisha Wentworth come back again next year! Shari Buccilli and Amber Breeden have totally taken care of the Color Guard to such a level where I hardly changed a single thing this year! Our parents helpers - Andrew Apps, April Frost, Patricia Mangus, and Beth Twynham have just excellent and have all the students convinced that they all now have a new mom and dad! The parents have helped with so many things to help make sure camp runs smoothly - things like being around at free time, helping with uniform fittings, running equipment back and forth, getting pies ready, and other such feats as inspiring the students to run at 9PM! John Manley has of course helped out the percussion section and even ended up doing double duty this week as he ended up having to teach TWO band camps in the same week. He taught two camps all while preparing special entertainment for the band students/chaperones! It is groups of students and like these that reaffirm that I have one of the best jobs in the world! Go check the band YouTube page to see the little video we've prepared for you! https://youtu.be/o7yC4ZLkhww Need to go back and forth to sports practices and want to know the band camp schedule? Want to visit Camp and see the eager Eagles hard at work? Here's a schedule of our Dailey rehearsals and fun times.... (Always subject to change!) Down load and print it if you want!![]()

Parents- text @hsban to 81010 Students - text @hsbands to 81010 Parents may feel free to sign up for both but it is not necessary. We will also be asking for parent volunteers to donate some snack items for band camp. Things like...
Remember - If you still owe Money towards Band Camp you HAVE to get that taken care of BEFORE we leave for Camp! We will have the option on Monday morning to let you pay with your debit/credit card if that helps. You should have received several invoices through the mail already but if you are unsure about the amount you owe then message either Penny Murphy or myself and we can let you know the amount you still owe. That money is what allows us to pat for your child to be at The Springs and it pays for their TShirt, the Dry Cleaning of uniforms, a pair of Marching Band Gloves and that's it. Band Boosters picks up the additional cost of paying for Instructors and the cost of the adults that are at camp. If you have questions/comments/concerns then please get a hold of MR. Shimmons - email is easiest: pshimmons @ g m a i l.com (Take out all the spaces when you actually type that in! Facebook messenger MIGHT work but sometimes those messages get hidden from me. ![]()
