Attention all you Band Peeps that want to continue being student leaders next year or those of you that are thinking you want to step up to a leadership position!
IT is that time of the school year that we discuss who wants to be a student leader for next school year.... So next week on Wednesday we are going to have a google meeting at 2PM to discuss becoming a student leader. We will talk about the process of becoming a leader, we will discuss what being a leader is all about, we will discuss the positions available, we will discuss Drum Majors, Section Leaders, and everything else! Let's discuss things like how the application process is going to happen, who you will interview and be interviewed with, how much time it will take you to be a student leader. What are things you can do and not do as a student leader. We will talk about the training process for the next couple of months and over the summer. We will talk about how you as one of our student leaders will help shape our band program. Here is your first job.... Who sticks out in your mind from this school year as being a leader in the band, school, or community? Why did that FIRST person you thought of jump into your mind as soon as you read that question? As we head into the month of April we have added several opportunities for students to communicate safely with other Band Students as well as new ways for students to continue making music!
NoteFlight Learn is an online music notation app allowing students to compose, create, arrange and work with others on music. NoteFlight also has given access to their Pop and Band libraries opening a slew of content for students to learn and explore. 9th-12th grade students have already been using NoteFlight a bit in class and are all setup and ready to go IF you have already been into our Google Classroom from Tri-mister 2. We have NOT been using the content libraries so those are new. if 5th-8th graders have the technology to access NoteFlight then we can set them up with access to the FMS Band Google Classroom and NoteFlight. All they really need is a SmartPhone to make this happen. Of course an iPad or computer/laptop will work also. if you have an iPad, or desktop/laptop then there is another option for students available. SmartMusic is an amazing tool for student to practice with. There are all sorts of exercises, like the 5th and 6th grade Essential Element books as well as more music for them to practice with and explore. Once you are in Google Classroom if you want access to SmartMusic send a message to Mr. Shimmons requesting the access code. ‘’All Parents and students should make sure they are a part of the Remind Messages and the Farwell Band Facebook Group.
